Hi, Im from the Maldives, but living in SriLanka. My water broke mid of 19th week! I was sitting down for sometime and as I got up I felt a gush of water. I had never thought for a second about Pprom! Never heard of it before either!, My husband was away on a flight and my mum had to take me to the hospital! I was kept in the labour room for sometime. Did a scan to see if things were ok. In countries like SriLanka hospitals are not so organised! Doctors are not reachable so easily! I had no contraction, nor did I feel the baby's movement at that very moment! Finally my doctor came after few hours! I was admitted to the hospital but I never got proper answers to my questions either! After few days I was advised to go home and bedrest. I had good days (no leaks at all) , and sometime very bad days (leaking nonstop). I did a lot of research at home to find out that Im actually experiencing Preterm rupture of membrane!!! I learnt alot from the other mummies with Pprom. And did things as them to keep the baby safe. After few weeks I started to bleed (on my husband's birthday!), and had more and more fluid leaking! Went back to the hospital and then I was told that the baby might come out anytime and also that he won't survive. Full stop! It's going to be a miscarry. SriLanka doesn't really practice this sort of thing. I had to decide on whether to wait for baby to just come out or else take a chance and do a c-section and still have no hope on his survival! I HAD SO MUCH HOPE! Still with no hope from my doctors including the pediatrician I still had hope! I decided I had to go to a better hospital with proper nicu facilities! So my husband Ambu- Lifted me to Singapore. What a relief! They did all the tests and I was on strict bed rest in Mt. Elizabeth Hospital till I reached 17 weeks and 6 days! Mind you my test results showed that I had severe infections! I was on antibiotics, still didnt answer to any! Just Christmas at the corner, on 12th December 2010 I had very high fever, body aches, nausea, what not! The doctor and nurses thought I was having side effects from having so many antibiotics! Started to feel contractions later at night (by that time I was basically pushing), and had to be taken for an emergency C-section. Unfortunately my husband was in Srilanka and was getting into a flight to come to me as I was taken into the Theater. I tried to stay as strong as I could till my husband came to be and then I burst out crying. I was too frightened to even ask about the baby just after I woke up from the C-section or even after being brought back to my room. I just closed my eyes and counted minutes for my husband to come and give me the news. ' look at him, he is so cute, looks normal, just look at him'.... Those were the words from my husband showing me a picture from his phone. I still struggled to look but once I did I cried with so much happiness. Hope, Hope Hope...its all in God's hand. Do your duty by being the best mum, eating healthy and bed resting . Good luck to all of you! Our baby boy Zaik was just over 1.1kg birth weight. Today Zaik is 7 months old (corrected date 4 months), a very happy healthy baby.
