Rachel's PROM Story

By Rachel Dicker, Gold Coast, Queensland Australia
PROM at 14 weeks + 5 days. Delivery at 25 weeks + 2 days.
Story added: 2011-12-19
I had bleeding due to SCH from 9 weeks so wasnt really aware that my membranes had ruptured til 17 weeks when a scan showed up no fluid. I refused to terminate and went on bedrest taking as many vitamins as I could lay hands on and drinking 4-5 litres of water a day. I had numerous scans some with measurements of around 1-2 cms but mostly unmeasurable. I had a few trips to the emergency room because of further large bleeds and was admitted to hospital twice for further bleeding. I had steroids at 24 weeks then at 25 weeks I started having contractions and bleeding again and was taken by ambulance from my local hospital to our tertiary hospital in Brisbane which is an hour away from my home. I was given MAG and the contractions subsided and I was to stay in until the bleeding stopped. I had another ultra sound at 5pm at 25+2 and everything looked fine my cervix was still long and closed and just after 7 pm I went to the toilet and my little boy slipped partly out. It took about 4 minutes to give birth without contractions as he was breech his head was stuck for one and a half minutes. He was a very sick little boy that first night he was resuscitated and ventilated, and I didnt get to hold him for 4 weeks but he has come so far...he is currently 11 weeks old in ICN and on hi flow and he has proved to everyone that miracles can happen. I praise God for my little miracle, everything I have been through is absolutely worth it! If I can help anyone in any way, please feel free to email me....
