Story added: 1999-09-11
I am 26 years old, I found out i was pregnant may 19, 1998. With my first child. I had an AFP blood test done resulting in high protien levels, was refered to a perintologist on august 31, and found out that my water had apprently broke on august 8, at 16 weeks, being my first pregnancy, I thought I simply had a loss of bladder control, i did not experience any cramping. So i did not worry.

The doctor did not think my pregnancy would last. I was sent home on bed rest and under close supervision. Fluid levels went up and down. We used beta methasone to mature babys lungs. On October 27th, 27 weeks along I started bleeding very heavy. I was hospitalized and put on trubline to stop contractions, which worked verry well.

The doctor did an amnio on december 4th, bringing a mature lung profile. My son was then born in a planned C-setion on december 10th, at 34 weeks weighing 3# 5oz. apgars 8 & 9.

He was born outside the membranes and the placenta was dead. I was told that only about 4 percent of babies carried in this situation survive to be born.

He had his own unique chalenges and spent 70 days in NICU , But has done quite well. He came home on Febuary 16th, 1999.

Today he is 7 mo old and weighs 9#7oz, has a g-tube and is quite healthy! I am verry proud of my "Little Mircle" I am a single mother and went through all of this basicly by my self. I enjoy sharing and trying to be of a support to other people in similar situations.
