Tammy's PROM Story

By Tammy, Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada
PROM at 29 weeks + 4 days. Delivery at 34 weeks.
Story added: 2001-01-29
This is my first pregnancy, I am a healthy, active 27 yr old. I was having an excellent pregnancy, no morning sickness, nothing. I felt wonderful.

At 28 weeks I got a pain (stitch)in my side, my doctor told me it was nothing, no kidney infection or anything, just probably the baby sitting wrong. (I have a history of bladder infections and have been hospitalized once for kidney infection, although not during pregnancy)

After a day the stitch went away so I did not think anything
more about it. I was very active the next weekend, walking, running around etc. and then at 29 1/2 weeks, my membranes leaked, I also lost my mucus plug.

I was hospitalized and given steroid injections (2). I then
stayed on bed rest with mild to heavy leaking with weekly
planning score tests for 4 1/2 weeks. No problems. I delivered by voluntary cesearean (baby was breech due to odd
shaped uterus and baby could not turn) at 34 weeks. Baby girl was born June 8, 2000 (due date was July 22, 2000) at
5 lb 5 oz.

No ventilation was needed. Baby was in hospital for 2 weeks,
treated with antibiotics and phototherapy for jaudice.
Now baby is healthy, happy and doing wonderful!!!
