Jeannie's PROM Story

By Jeannie, North Brunswick, NJ USA
PROM at 16 weeksDelivery at 37 weeks.
Story added: 1999-08-01
My water broke at 16 weeks. At the hospital, my Dr. told me that the prognosis was not good and I would lose the baby. Since I was in a catholic hospital they would not terminate the pregnancy, which I would not have ageed to anyway. I was kept overnight and released the next day with instructions for bedrest and to call if I developed a fever. I was also told to drink plenty of fluids. After 10 days of bedrest and 96oz of water per day, I was given an ultrasound which showed my fluid levels were normal.

Three weeks after the rupture, tests confirmed that the rupture had resealed. I was allowed out of bed, but told to take it easy (no lifting, driving, working). At 37 weeks my water broke again and I delivered a healthy 7lb 2oz boy!

Keep the faith. Expect a miracle.
