Keary's PROM Story

By Keary, Manassas, VA USA
PROM at 33 weeks + 1 days. Delivery at 34 weeks.
Story added: 2001-02-23
I had severe lower backpains and was leaking very little fluid with no discharge/color. I called my OB and was told that most pregnant women suffer from lower back pain due to the shift and weight, and tend to leak urine, not to worry. On my way to my routine OB appt., I felt a gush and knew right away that my water had broke. I was admitted to the hospital and received Mag Sulfate to stop the contractions/steriods for the baby's lungs. The day I turned 34 wks, I developed a fever, so was told that I would be induced to deliver. Kaela weighed 4 lbs 5 ozs and is beautiful! She stayed in the NICU for 28 days and came home weighing 5lbs. She had apnea and came home on a heart moniter. She's doing great and we love her very much!!! Currenlty, I'm pregnant again w/a boy and am 28 wks +3 days. At week 27, I experienced a little spotting and lower back pain and cramping. I was admitted the hospital - no contractions so I was sent home on bedrest. I had a test done which is a cervial swab to determine if I would deliver w/in 7-14 days. The test was negative, so my OB advised that I could move aground more but still take an easy. What are the chances of having PROM again. My first pregnancy I did test + for urea plasma. I have been checked for UTI, and other bacteria -- all are -. I worry because I know boys do not do as well as females. I have read many stories and it seems that those who PROM usally PROM again. Are there stats on this website? Thank you and my heart goes out to all you wonderful ladies!
