My water broke at 32 weeks into my pregnancy. It was my first pregnacy and up until then things had been going perfect. I was out of town and 4 hours away from home and my doctor, when my water broke. Since I didn't know where the local hospital was I called an ambulance. After being checked by a doctor at the local hospital I was transfered to another hospital an hour away which specalizes in high risk pregnancys and had an excellent Nicu for the baby. My labor started shortly after my water broke and medication to stop it didn't work. I was given shots to speed up the devlopment of the baby's lungs. Since I never thought I would have a premature baby I had no idea what to expect and was very scared for my baby's health , but my nurse was the best, she never left my side and tried to explain what would happen after the baby was born and told me that he had a excellent chance of being perfectly healthy. 12 hours later after suffering a little distress Calvin was born weighing 4 pounds 6 ounces and 16 inches long. He stayed in the Nicu for 3 weeks because he needed to get a little bigger and suffered from apnea and bradycardia. 2 weeks ago he had to go back to the Pediatric ICU to be treated for respitory distress and viral Pnuemonia. But at one month past his due date he is doing great and weighing in at 12 pounds 4 ounces I was lucky to have been near a great hospital and thankful every day for my healthy baby boy.
