Molly's PROM Story

By Molly Nier, Rochester, NY US
PROM at 19 weeks + 1 days. Delivery at 19 weeks + 6 days.
Story added: 2002-01-15
This is my first of 3 PROM stories. When I was just over 19w pregnant in the middle of the night my water broke. I had no idea what was happening and called the doctor and was told to go into the maternity dept at the hospital. When I got there they did a speculum exam and checked to see if I did PROM. They also did an ultrasound and saw that there was not much fluid left. They gave me the option of inducing labor or waiting it out to see if I would reseal--which they did not have much hope for. I stayed in the hospital for 4 days and then they sent me home telling me to check my temp every 2 hours to look for infection. They next evening my temp went up and I called and was told to come in. I started having mild contractions and they induced labor. At 4:12am on Dec 12, 1998 my daughter Madison Elizabeth was born. Thank goodness the nurses at the hospital talked to me about seeing and holding her. I am so glad I had a chance to hold my baby. My mother arranged to have her buried in the cemetery where my father is and we had a small family service. I visit often and still think about her every day. Of course I was told that this was just a fluke thing and the chances of it happening again to me were so slim. My husband and I wanted to start as soon as possible to have another child.
Nothing has touched my life like this has.
