Amy's PROM Story

By Amy, USA
PROM at 24 weeks + 6 days. Delivery at 24 weeks + 6 days.
Story added: 2002-01-19
I was having a wonderful pregnancy whenever I woke up at 2am one night to use the restroom and had a pretty steady flow of water before I got to the bathroom. I was pregnant with twins and had read all about how you lose control of your bladder. I thought that's what it was but I called the dr. just in case. She said I could come in then or wait until in the morning but the dr. had twins herself 8 months ago and reassured me that you do wet your pants. I waited until the morning. I was having slight stomach pains but thought it was gas pains as I had eaten Mexican the night before. Anyway I got in and she did an exam and we found that I was fully dialated and Samuel was in the birth canal. She had to do an emergency c-section if she could detect a heartbeat on ultrasound. She did and she did the c-section within minutes. Samuel died five hours after birth and after several rescusitations. Joseph lived
for four days and died on the day of his brother's funeral. They had given him hope of living but his (and his brother's) lungs were too underdeveloped. So it is getting to be time to try again and I am so nervous. Hopefully my body won't have to have fertility meds to conceive this time.
I really would like to hear of someone who has suffered from PROM and then had a successful subsequent pregnancy. If you or someone you know has please email me at
