Jennifer's PROM Story

By Jennifer, Denver, CO USA
PROM at 18 weeks + 1 days. Delivery at 18 weeks + 4 days.
Story added: 2002-11-04
My story begins with me finding out that I had adenocarcinoma of the cervix 3 weeks before my wedding. I was operated on and no re occurence in the 2 and a half yrs since. However, My husband and I wanted a family. We weren't sure how things would work out in that department but, my doc assured us it would be ok. He gave us the go ahead spring 2002. Sure enough we concieved at Easter!

The pregnancy was not going smoothly as I was treated for dehydration 5 times and had severe vomiting. I lost 14 pounds. By the 12th week they got that under control and then found a blood clotting disorder, Factor 5. I was then giving myself shots twice daily of heparin. Things were going along well and we were so excited for Christmas time, and then on July 22nd my water broke. I just knew that my baby wasn't going to make it. We went to ER and they told us of the chances of the baby's survival......practically none, with no lung capasity. We were so devastated and could barely come to terms with losing our child. We finally induced on July 26th and our son Cole Hilton was born at 3:52 a.m. He was 6.6 ounces and 10 inches long. He was so beautiful and we held him for hours. We baptised him with the chaplin and our parents.

My doc's can give me no reason why this happend, but want to put a stitch in next time. My cervix was closed all the way up until induction. I am not sure that is the answer. I am so nervous to try for another, as I don't know that I can bare the pain of losing another child. I am glad there is a place like this because it seems like these things are never talked about. It is going to be a rough Christmas without our son.
