I had already had a scare at 11wks, followed by another bleed at 27wks which they thought might have been my plug coming away slightly so was given the steroid injections as a precaution. I had been for my normal check with my consultant on the Wednesday and everything was fine although baby was already 3/5 engaged and they found glucose in my urine. The following morning I woke up and thought my bladder had leaked slightly never even thought it could be my waters. Went to work as normal to carry on leaking after it carrying on for a few hours and it being enough to soak a pad I rang the hospital and was advised to go into hospital. When I was examined it was confirmed my waters had gone and I was also having mild contractions. These settled down once I had eaten and had something to drink. I was immediately started on a course of antibiotics and swabs and bloods were taken. I had to stay in hospital for 48hrs to make sure I didn't go I to labour. Once released I had to take my temperature 3 times a day and was monitored in hospital every few days with bloods and swabs being taken. In reality I was in hospital most days for monitoring as was so scared of something going wrong. I was lucky that my consultant was very thorough and picked up that although bloods were clear my swab had shown strep b so started me on another course of antibiotics. Initially the aim was to get to 34wks then once that milestone passed it was decided I would be induced at 35wks as like my consultant said they could monitor me for infection but once I was showing signs the infection was there and could be passed on to baby. The time in between prom and being induced was very stressful I could go a day or so without leaking but would then have a sudden big loss. I drank as much as I could which did seem to make a difference. As I was showing no other signs of labour I was advised not to bed rest as this could cause pooling of the fluid and increase infection risk but to be sensible and rest. I also made sure I ate and drank regularly as if I didn't I would start to get contractions/tightenings. I was eventually put on a drip to induce me as the pessaries didn't work and after a very painful labour with only gas and air my baby boy was born at 35wks.at 5lb2ozs with forceps as his heart rate kept dropping. He didn't need to go to special care, was given antibiotics as a precaution and we were both released after 3 nights.
