Story added: 2014-02-12
My partner and I have spent 17 wonderful years together and have always wanted to start a family. In January 2013, we decided to explore and move forward with surrogacy. We were matched with a wonderful surrogate (Emily) whose generosity and kindness was going to give us the greatest gift of our lives. After the transfer process, we learned it was going to be twins and we were overjoyed! As we took our journey through pregnancy, we celebrated each week - 10 weeks, 11 weeks... It was tough to live almost 500 miles away from her, but we stayed very close through every step and made regular trips for sonograms and doctor appointments. Unfortunately, at the 18th week, Emily had some leaking and went to the hospital. It was terrible news - Baby A's (Ethan) amniotic sack had ruptured prematurely. Unfortunately, at 19 weeks and 3 days, Ethan was stillborn. We were devastated, but prayed and hoped for a miracle that Braden would stay in and Emily would not get an infection. It would be a long 5 weeks. But, unfortunately, at 20 weeks and 2 days, Braden's sack reputed (likely due to an infection). He was born and we spent 2 wonderful hours cradling him, but we ultimately lost him as well. Emily remained in the hospital for a couple days recovering, but thankfully she is doing well. We are completely heartbroken and have so much love and sadness for Ethan and Braden. They will always be in our hearts. It has been a very draining 2 weeks and now we are faced with mourning our beautiful boys. Always have HOPE! This site has provided us with support and knowledge that was crucial in our journey. Even though ours ended early, please fight the fight and never give up hope!
