Our story is unfortunately not a survival story but it is a story of a boy who made it all the way to viability and a little beyond and who didn't actually die because of bad lungs even though he had almost no amniotic fluid for 10 weeks. I was pregnant with twins after multiple IVF attempts when suddenly in week 9-10 i started to bleed. It turned out the one twin had died. During the following weeks i was bleeding on and off until 16+4 when my healthy twins water broke. After losing all the amniotic fluid I kept leaking and never accumulated more than 1,7 cm as the deepest pocket. Usually around 1 cm or less. Because of that we were told that the baby would have a very poor chance of survival. Even though they never told us to terminate they strongly hinted at it. Our son was very healthy and fine so we couldn't do it and i stayed home the next almost 10 weeks to avoid infections and stress and to leak as little as possible. I thought it would be a short wait but our son kept growing as he should and was moving around like crazy. My stomach would have all kinds of weird shapes and it was actually rather painful. The last 5 weeks I had to give up walking because of the pain and I had a suspicion that the placenta was losening as well. Finally at 26+0 the placenta abrupted and they had to perform an emergency c section because of the bleeding. Our son did very well the first couple of days although he did have very bad lungs and needed oxygen, nitric oxide and help to maintain a normal blood preassure in his lungs. The doctors were very positive until the third day when he started to have serious bleedings in the brain. After that they had to maximize oxygen and nitric oxide. Nitrogen oxide increases the risk of bleeding in the brain so after that it was really just a matter of time. The Next morning his oxygen levels and pulse had a big dive and instead of trying to save him again they decided it was best to let him die with his parents.
