Emma's PROM Story

By Emma Cole, Uk Uk
PROM at 27 weeks + 3 days. Delivery at 37 weeks + 2 days.
Story added: 2024-03-21
At 27+3 it was slightly terrifying when I felt “wet” down there, wasn’t lots of water just enough to make me think what is that! I had previously had 2 lots of lletz procedures due to abnormal cells picked up in my smear test, I had been warned I would have cervical length checks during any pregnancies, so I called the midwife immediately. Went to hospital who confirmed I had PPROM! I spent 5 days in hospital after this, for lots of monitoring, thankfully no contractions had started and I had no infections. Apparently this was very rare as generally people go into labour fairly quickly after PPROM. after discharge I had to go back to hospital weekly for blood tests, and scans to make sure water was still replenishing and baby was ok. I went on to part time hours, with partial bed rest and tried to stay sane and not worry constantly! It was reassuring being checked weekly! At 37+1 I went in for arranged induction and my beautiful boy was born! Perfect! Healthy at 6.1lbs. I felt very lucky! I’m now 16 weeks pregnant… 2.5 years later and feeling nervous to do it again, let’s hope I won’t experience any of this again this time. Positive thinking!
