Cameron's PROM Story

By Cameron, San Francisco USA
PROM at 21 weeks + 5 days. Delivery at 28 weeks + 4 days.
Story added: 2003-02-10
At 21.5 weeks, I was admitted to the hospital with a dialated cervix and baby A's bag was hanging out. We were given some choices and decided to try an emergency cerclage where they pushed baby A's bag back in and then stitched the cervix back together. We were warned that it very possibly would not work and baby A's water might break. If it did, they were going to pull her out and try to stop the labor from delivering her sister. It worked, but that night her water broke. We were afraid it was over. They gave me choices again and said I could try to stay pregnant but the risk of infection was high, also the severe risk to A's lungs. We decided again to try, and stayed on strict bedrest until 28.5 weeks with the help of anti-contraction medicine around the clock and limited movement. Madeline and Claire were born at 2.4 and 2.9 pounds and spent 7 and 9 weeks in the NICU. Claire (baby A) had sufficient lungs to breathe but needed oxygen and breathing medicine for the first 6 months just for help, but other than that, we had a very easy NICU experience. Both girls are healthy 11 pound fraternal twin babies, at home with Mommy and Daddy. Yesterday they were baptized on a beautiful sunny day in San Francisco. We have much to be thankful to God for. They are true miracle.

Have faith and a positive attitude - anything is possible.
