Story added: 2004-01-14
My name is Carol Lynn Johnson. Iam 36 and have lost 2 children d/t ?PROM and IC.
We lost our daughter at 22 weeks after coming home from a medical conference in Atlanta. As we said our goodbyes to the house/dog
sitter I felt my mucous plug go. I went to the bathroom and saw it. I wiped a bit more and them I smelled amniotic fluid.
I had a small leak. I made my hd take me to the ER and they comfirmed our fears. I had no infection but was also slightly dialated,
They would not put in a rescue Vag Cerclage d/t being ruptered so we stayed in the hospital for 1 week.
I continued to leak but she had plenty of fluid till I totally ruptured on day 7. I was forced to deliver as her foot was sticking out of my
cervix. She died during birth. Prior to this happening I had asked my OB for a vag cerclage d/t a history of having a LEEP done 10 years earlier. He told me I had to have a prior loss in order to do it and assured me that I would be fine. Six weeks later I delivered her at 22 wks.
I became pg with our son in Jan of 2003 with an EDC of Oct 11. I requested an Abdominal cerclage as it has a higher succes rate than just a vag one. They said that the vag would be just fine that the Abd was over kill. I had my vc at 12 weeks and went on complete BR for 6 weeks. My cervix continued to shorten and at 18 weeks they put me into the hospital. I was there for 6 more weeks and on my 24th wk I PROM'd. I was on tocolytics and my cervix at the time looked good but had funneling to the stitch. I lasted 3 days with him until I went into labor and delivered, June 24. Alex went to NICU and for 3 weeks he did great. He had no bleeds, his PDA was closed, he was requiring less O2, and he was growing. Everyone was hopeful. Suddenly at 3 weeks of age he developed NEC and preforated his intestine, within 24 hours he died of sepsis.
I have since pressured my OB into letting me have an abdominal cerclage done pre-pg. I had this done on Dec 4, 2003. We are now trying to conceive with Clomid.I am seeking any information to increase our odds. I have taken care of the IC with the Abdominal being in place BUT I am still worried about the PROM problem.
Information about me..... I am an RN with experiance in Trauma/ER, Cardiology invasive surgery and procedures and non invasive as well.
My husband is a Family Practice MD in private practice.
I look forward to learning from everyone.
Thank you
