Colleen's PROM Story

By Colleen,
PROM at 20 weeksDelivery at 27 weeks.
Story added: 1997-09-27
I also had a doctor (perinatologist) who gave me a very gloom outlook. My water started leaking at 20 weeks. at 23 weeks I saw him and he said one of two things would happen.

A) I would go into labor (with or without an infection) and the baby would be too early to save or

B) the baby would stay in for a while but be born with no lungs, severly deformed etc....and die within moments.

I'm happy to say I survived to 27 weeks and due to fetal distress delivered Tessa via emergency section at 1#14. She is nearly two now....and absolutely perfect. I had had 4 uneventful full-term pregnancies prior to this. There is no explaination for the PROM. I never developed an infection. BUT I DID EXPERIENCE A DAY OF MASSIVE BLEEDING at 14 weeks. Seems like I read somewhere that bleeding in early pregnancy can be indictative of difficulties later in pregnancy. Am I right?

I'm currently 10.5 weeks pregnant and curious what my chances are of this happening again. Anyone have stats on this? Thanks all....will be looking for more stories. :)
