Helen's PROM Story

By Helen Anderson, Draycott, Somerset UK
PROM at 20 weeksDelivery at 35 weeks + 5 days.
Story added: 2005-02-06
Stunned to be pregnant with Twins (first pregnancy) at 38.
Started light bleeding from week 10.The scan showed a large bloodclot in uterus so took it pretty easy.
Prom twin 1 discoverd at 20 week scan - devastating
Delivered Twin 1 at 22 weeks. Heartbreaking to hold my first beautiful baby girl, already dead. Hope was slim for twin 2, she needed to stay for put to have a chance.Stayed in hospital on strict bedrest waiting for twin 2 to come. Miraculously the cervix closed and I was able to come home at 28 weeks. Temperature was taken twice daily at home and blood and vaginal swabs were taken weekly to check for infection. Regular scans monitored fluid around remaining baby. Finally I was booked in for induction at 36 weeks.
Waters broke for twin 2 at 35 weeks and I went into labour. After a scary abruption and crash cesarean we have a gorgeous baby girl who weighed in at 4lb 4oz.She stayed in special care for 4 days but - 10 weeks on - seems just fine. We are so thankful and eternally grateful to the Fetal Medecine Unit at St Michaels Hospital Bristol
If you find yourself or a loved one in a similar position just note - Truly held on 13 weeks after we lost her little sister so there is always hope. God bless you
