Story added: 2007-02-01
In my third pregnancy, following two full term deliveries, my water broke in the 31st week.
I was hanging out in front of the TV with my 3 year old and 15 month old, when I felt a kind of splash. Honestly, at first I thought my daughter had spilled something on me or pped her pants...I was confused. It didn't take me long to realise that it came from me. I called the doc, and was told to go to the hospital. It was 45 minutes away, and I had two toddlers with me! I tried to stay calm as I dropped off my girls at a friends and drove myself to the hospital. After confirming that the membranes had ruptured, I was taken by ambulance to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital, over an hour away. I didn't recieve steroid shots, and I wasn't contracting regularly. It didn't seem like there was much of a plan... they just waited to see what would happen. The baby was HUGE on U/S for her age, over 5 lbs. This made us all think that my pregnancy was incorrectly dated. I started having more contractions, but they were weak, so the docs opted to induce labor with pitocin. She was born weighing 5'9 and doing well. She had pretty sever jaundice, a few apnea episodes, no bradys. She nursed well, and after two weeks was transferred to a closer hospital. She spent another 5 days there before being sent home with a billi blanket. Based on her size I really think i was further along than 32 weeks, but I guess we'll never know for sure.
