Elly's PROM Story

After having had a miscarriage, and 2 ectopic pregnancies (both of which resulted in the loss of a fallopian tube) we resorted to IVF to help us get pregnant. On the 2nd attempt it worked and we were thrilled.

At 7 weeks I had some bleeding that went on for 22 days. Then again at 12 weeks I had heavy red bleeding that lasted until the end of the pregnancy. Throughout the bleeding though the baby remained strong and healthy.

At 19+3 I woke up at 5.30am and felt damp, I went to the loo and instead of the usual bleeding I saw a fluid that was more liquid like, I went back to bed but an hour later it happened again, I telephoned the hospital and they admitted me right away.

They did a few tests and confirmed that it was indeed amniotic fluid as I had suspected and they told us that we should expect the worse and that I would likely go into labour within 48 hours if I didn't get an infection first.

We held on though for 2 weeks, the 20 week scan showed 4cm of fluid and the fluid loss the first week was very minimal if any at all, but at 21 weeks it got worse.

At 21+2 I woke to find the cord had come down, so we called for an ambulance and I was admitted again. I knew at this point that it was all over and that there was no more we could do for our little one.

I went into labour at 2am and Matthew was born sleeping at 11.09am.

We are totally devastated, but we will be trying again with IVF in a few months time. Don't give up hope.
