Mary's PROM Story

By Mary, MD USA
PROM at 27 weeksDelivery at 28 weeks.
Story added: 2000-05-15
My first pregancy with my daughter was difficult from the beginning. The morning sickness was so bad that at one point I couldn't even keep down water, and had to be rehydrated early on in the pregnancy. I was teaching and got a urinary tract infection, at a follow-up visit the doctor put me on the monitor and said I was having some Pre-term labor, but the pregnancy wasn't viable (@23weeks) He put me on a week of bedrest and order me to stop working.

At twenty seven weeks, I had PROM. I was so exhausted that I laid down for a nap, and when I woke, by water had broken. I knew that this was bad.. it was terrifying. I was admitted to the hospital and eventually after a week, there was hardly any fluid left, and they had to induce. My daughter Aubrey was born December 18, 1997, and weighed 2lbs, 2oz. She stayed in the NICU 8 weeks, and is my little miracle baby today..I hope this gives some of you reading this hope....
