Story added: 2008-02-29
This was my first pregnancy and it was fabulous. I had no problems aside from having pneumonia early on. I did everything right and had never even thought that I may be a candidate for preterm labor. At our 20 week U/S they couldn't get a picture of Cooper's lumbar spine. So we went for a second (we were so happy to get to see him again) two weeks later on January 30,2008. Everything looked great, as it had the last time. The next day, I was leaking fluid all day long. I thought it was leakage from the medicine that I had been given for my yeast infection the night before. But when I passed two small blood clots, I went right to the doctor. She told me that my water had broken and sent me directly to the hospital. I was admitted and told that I was not contracting or dilating. I lasted until the next morning before the contractions began. That was the worst feeling in my life...not the pain but the fear of what was about to happen to us and to our little boy. They put me on a morphine drip hoping to stop my contractions, as my cervix was still not at all dilated, it was, however, thinning out. As the contractions got worse throughout the morning, I developed a fever and had to be INDUCED. That afternoon was spent in tears and sadness. I wanted it to be over with and I just wanted him to come, but I will never forget the doctor's words when she checked my cervix after I told them I was feeling something, even though I had had an epidural. She said, "You can push". I wanted nothing more than to reverse time and go back to my fabulous pregnancy of the morning before. Cooper was delivered easily after three pushes. He was always so good to me...never made me sick, never caused me any problems, and he never kicked too hard. I know he was little, but he was, of course, the perfect baby. He lived for a few minutes...each of those minutes were spent in my arms being loved.

The doctors have no explanation as to why I pPROMed. They are calling it a fluke, but will take precautions the next time, and have quoted me the 30% repeat statistic. It makes little sense that it is a fluke when they can give you stats on a repeat.
