I wanted to share my story with you in hopes that I may comfort another who has gone through the same thing.

It all began Christmas eve 1996. I was 16 weeks pregnant and did some shopping that day. I came home tired and stressed from my extremely ative 2 yr old. I was feeling crummy all day. Very tired and just bla. Around 4pm I sat down on the couch to relax. I think I remember using the bathroom about 10 min before noticing some blood. Very small amount but it worried me. Anyhow I felt the urge to use the restroom again and all of a sudden my water had broke. I knew right away what was happening as with my son I knew the smell of amniotic fluid and I did not even have to think twice about it. (gross sorry I know).

Anyhow I called my Ob in a panic and he kept asking me well is it blood or watery. I told him it deffinatly was amniotic fluid. He called me into the office immediatly and confirmed thats what happened. He sent me directly to the hospital where they hooked me up to an IV. Loaded me with antibiotics and had me flat on my back for a day. During this time there was a strong heartbeat from the baby. Later that day a specialist came in and told me the grim outlook. Apparently so early there was not much hope of things going well. He said even if the baby lived it would have serious problems. He said I could wait it out but it could take weeks to deliver naturally. This could cause infection so he suggested speeding things up. At this point a heartbeat could not be found. In anguish we decided to speed it up and they gave me something to thin the cervix.

This did not work well and they wanted to rush me in for a d&C. I did not want to be knocked out as it was horrible enough. So I stayed awake the whole time. NO pain killers whatsoever. After a grueling 20 minutes it was over. It was a numbing heartbreaking experience for me.

I tried and tried to think of what I might of done to cause this. The pathology report showed a normal fetus and no infections of any sort. To this day there is no reason as to why this should have happened. I also had a placenta previa detected when my water broke. I somehow feel this may have been the culprit but I may never know. I know this is a sad story but I wanted to share it with you all.

I currently am 7 weeks pregnant after a 2 year struggle with infertility. Of course im a wreck but i'll make it. Im so happy yet so scared. Anyhow anyone with questions please feel free to email me anytime!
