Story added: 2010-01-17
At 31 weeks and 2 days, I felt a gush of fluid after standing up at my desk at work. I was hoping it was just urine, but it kept on coming. My doc's office had me come in and she checked me. Yes, my water had totally broken and I was to stay at the hospital on bedrest until our baby was born. Until then, I had the most enjoyable pregnancy and in the back of my mind I always felt there would be a tradeoff. After my water broke, I made it through the "cruciaI" 48 hours and was able to get both steroid shots to help her lungs develop. I laid on my side in the hospital for 10 days, and then began feeling small contractions on the 11th day. At 32 weeks 6 days, our beautiful baby girl was born wailing and breathing on her own. She was born weighing 4lbs 10oz and 19 inches long. She was in the NICU for 7 days and we are so grateful she did not have any episodes or need any assistance of any sort. On Christmas day she was moved to the Infant Special Care unit where she worked on bottle feeding for 10 days. 17 days after her birth she was able to come home with us and we are loving every second we have with her. I know how hard it is to be on bedrest in the hospital, not knowing what will happen next and what the outcome will be, as well as the emotions that come with the unexpected p-prom. I've never gone through anything more difficult physically or emotionally in my life. However, in the end, the excruciating time spent waiting and wondering was worth it and I'd do it 100 times over to have my healthy baby in my arms.
